Building Stronger Family Bonds
Through Counseling

What is Family Counseling?

Family counseling is designed to help families improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen their relationships. It involves working with a therapist who is trained to address the dynamics between family members, understand your individual concerns, and guide you toward healthier patterns of interaction.

Family counseling can be helpful for families experiencing conflict, transitions, or challenges that affect the overall well-being of the family unit.

Who Is Family Counseling For?

Families in Conflict

If there is significant tension or conflict between family members, family therapy can help address the issues and work towards resolution.

Parents and Children

Families with issues like behavioral problems in children or difficulties between parents and children can benefit from family therapy.

Blended Families

Step-families or families with new relationships can benefit from therapy to help build healthy bonds and understand the challenges of blended family dynamics.

Families Experiencing Grief or Loss

After the death of a family member or a major life change, counseling can help the family cope with grief and support one another.

Families Dealing with Addiction or Mental Health Issues:

Family counseling can help families understand the impact of addiction or mental health struggles on the family and create a supportive environment for recovery.

Divorce or Separation

Families going through a divorce or separation can use counseling to help children adjust to the changes and foster healthy co-parenting relationships.

Crisis Situations

Families dealing with crises like abuse, trauma, or major life transitions (e.g., moving, job loss) can benefit from counseling to navigate the challenges they face.

The Difference

What Sets Arise Apart

Arise is a Christian Counseling Center that is both clinically sound and founded in Biblical truth. Our Christian Counseling approach incorporates Biblical principles, spiritual guidance, and Christian values in the therapeutic process.

We are a professional, competent, clinically sound counseling practice, and we serve clients from all faiths and all walks of life. If you don’t want Christian values and Biblical principles integrated into therapy, we will honor and respect that.

Christian Counseling for Families

In Christian family counseling, our approach often integrates biblical concepts to strengthen family relationships, resolve conflicts, and promote healthy family dynamics through the following:

Family unity & spiritual growth

Our counselors will emphasize the importance of family unity through shared faith. Families are encouraged to practice Christian values together, such as love, patience, humility, and service, in order to foster a nurturing home environment.

Forgiveness and Healing

Family conflicts, such as sibling rivalry, marital strife, or generational tension, will be addressed through the lens of Christian healing and forgiveness. Our counselors will guide family members toward reconciling your differences and restoring broken relationships using scriptural principles of forgiveness and grace.

Role of faith in parenting

Our counselors will help parents align your parenting approach with biblical teachings about discipline, love, and raising children in a Godly manner.

Prayer as a family

Families will be encouraged to pray together, fostering spiritual connection and seeking God’s guidance to heal and strengthen relationships. Family members will also be asked to reflect on the role of your faith in overcoming challenges as a unit.

God’s role is central

We will emphasize God’s role in healing, transformation, and relationship restoration, and we lead you into deeper personal relationship and connection with Him.

How Family Counseling Works

Initial Assessment:

The process begins with an initial assessment where the therapist meets with all or some of your family members to gather information about your family’s concerns, history, and current issues. This helps the therapist understand the family dynamics and set specific goals for therapy. In some cases, the therapist may also meet with individual family members separately to understand their personal perspective before moving forward with joint sessions.

Family Sessions:

Family therapy typically involves joint sessions where multiple family members participate. Our therapists create a safe and structured environment where everyone has an opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings openly. The therapist may guide the family in developing healthy communication skills, resolving conflicts, and understanding each other’s perspectives.

Treatment Approaches:

Family counseling often employs a variety of therapeutic approaches depending on your family’s needs, including Family Systems Counseling, which is a therapeutic approach that views a family as an emotional unit and emphasizes the ways in which family members interact and influence one another. Rather than focusing solely on an individual’s problems, this approach looks at how family dynamics contribute to those issues. It is grounded in Family Systems Theory, which suggests that individuals cannot be fully understood in isolation from the family system they are a part of. Instead, a person’s behaviors, thoughts, and emotions are seen as connected to the dynamics, roles, and relationships within the family.

Our Therapists will also use specific techniques to help family members address issues such as anger management, healthy communication, conflict resolution, or parenting strategies.

Goal Setting:

Our therapists work with your family to set clear and achievable goals. This could involve improving communication, resolving ongoing conflicts, rebuilding trust, or addressing specific challenges like addiction, mental health issues, or grief.

Ongoing Support:

Family counseling is usually conducted over multiple sessions, depending on the severity and nature of the issues being addressed. Our therapists may provide homework or exercises for your family members to practice between sessions. We work on your goals, providing feedback and strategies as we work through challenges.

Follow-Up:

Once you feel that you have made progress and achieved your goals, you can continue with occasional check-ins to maintain the improvements and prevent future issues.

What Can You Expect from Family Counseling?

Open Communication: Expect a space where family members can express your thoughts, feelings, and concerns without judgment. Our therapists will encourage open, honest dialogue to identify the root causes of conflicts.

A Safe Environment: Family therapy creates a supportive and safe environment where everyone can feel heard and respected. The therapist will ensure that all voices are valued and that each family member’s perspective is understood.

Guided Conflict Resolution: If there are ongoing conflicts or disagreements, the therapist will help the family navigate those conflicts by teaching effective communication skills and problem-solving strategies.

Learning Coping Mechanisms: Family members may learn strategies for managing stress, coping with emotions, and improving their overall mental health.
